The Line in the Sand – Understanding God’s Final Response
God is drawing a line in the sand, not because He wants to punish, but because He is restoring everything to His original intend: a World that is Good again!

"Let not your hearts be troubled." We opened our recent gathering with those beautiful words from John 14. It’s a promise we need to hold onto tightly: Jesus has gone to prepare a place for us, and He is coming back. For those of us who trust Him, that is a day of incredible hope.
But as we dived back into our study of Revelation (Chapters 15 and 16), we were reminded of another reality. Jesus’ return isn't just a family reunion; it is the moment God draws a final line in the sand regarding sin and evil.
Why the Wrath of God?
It’s a question that makes many of us uncomfortable. How does a loving God pour out "bowls of wrath"? In our study, we looked at the character of the One holding the bowls. He is described as:
Just and True: His actions aren't arbitrary or moody; they are a formal response to truth.
The King of Nations: He has the authority to bring order to His creation.
Holy: He is completely set apart from the darkness and brokenness of this world.
As we discussed in our groups, God’s wrath is actually his final response to the sin problem. It is the moment He says, "Enough is enough." He is protecting His original intent for creation—a world that He called "good."
A Tale of Two Responses
The most sobering part of Revelation 16 isn't the plagues themselves, but the human response to them.
Even as the world faces the consequences of rebellion, the text tells us something tragic: “They cursed the name of God... and they did not turn from their sins.”
Today, we live in the Dispensation of Grace. God’s arms are wide open. He is calling out, "Come to me, all who are weary." But Revelation warns us that there is a limit to this time of invitation. Eventually, the opportunity to choose voluntarily will pass.
"He’s a finisher. His wrath is limited, but His holiness is eternal. He doesn't want to do this, but because He is just, He must act."
Our Mission in the Meantime
While we wait for His return, we aren't just sitting on our hands. We have been left with a "super, most important mission" right here in Wanaka: The Ministry of Reconciliation.
Because we know what is coming, we should feel a holy urgency. We carry the gift of eternal life, and we have the privilege of sharing it with those who don't know Him yet.
What’s Next?
We are picking up the pace! We plan to finish the final chapters of Revelation over the next eight Sundays. We also have some exciting "vision casting" meetings coming up that you won't want to miss.
Reflect this week: Is there someone in your life God is calling you to reach out to? How can you be an agent of reconciliation in your workplace or neighborhood?
